Uganda’s Primate Paradise
Deep in the lush heart of western Uganda lies one of Africa’s most vibrant and biologically rich rainforests Kibale National Park, often referred to as the “Primate Capital of the World.” With its dense tropical vegetation, diverse wildlife, and thriving populations of chimpanzees and monkeys, Kibale offers visitors an unforgettable glimpse into the fascinating world of primates.
At Avents Safaris, we invite you to explore this incredible park and experience the thrill of meeting Uganda’s most intelligent and playful residents in their natural habitat.

About Kibale National Park
Located near the charming town of Fort Portal, Kibale National Park spans approximately 795 square kilometers of tropical forest, swamps, and grasslands. The park is home to over 13 species of primates, making it one of the highest primate densities in Africa.
Kibale’s altitude ranges from 1,100 to 1,600 meters, creating a comfortable climate for visitors while supporting an astonishing variety of flora and fauna including over 370 species of birds, 250 tree species, and numerous mammals.

The Star Attraction: Chimpanzees
The biggest highlight of any visit to Kibale is chimpanzee trekking. The park protects nearly 1,500 chimpanzees, many of which have been habituated for tourism and research.
Accompanied by expert rangers, visitors embark on guided forest walks to track these intelligent primates. The experience of watching chimps swing effortlessly through the trees, groom one another, and communicate with expressive gestures and calls is both humbling and exhilarating.
For those seeking a deeper encounter, the Chimpanzee Habituation Experience (CHEX) allows you to spend an entire day with researchers observing the chimps as they go about their daily lives a rare opportunity to witness raw, untamed behavior up close.

Other Primates of Kibale
Beyond chimpanzees, Kibale National Park is home to a spectacular variety of other primate species. Each one adds its own charm to the forest experience:
- Red Colobus Monkey: A rare and endangered species easily spotted in Kibale.
- Black-and-White Colobus Monkey: Graceful and photogenic with striking black and white fur.
- L’Hoest’s Monkey: Known for its shy nature and distinctive white beard.
- Blue Monkey: Often seen foraging in the mid-canopy.
- Grey-Cheeked Mangabey: Active and vocal monkeys known for their loud calls.
- Olive Baboon: Social and adaptable primates commonly found near the park’s edges.
- Patas Monkey, Red-Tailed Monkey, and Vervet Monkey: Frequently sighted in the forest fringes and along trails.
Kibale’s diversity makes it one of the few places in the world where visitors can see so many different primate species in one location.

Beyond Primates: A Haven for Nature Lovers
While primates steal the show, Kibale offers much more. The Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, located just outside the park, is a community-managed ecotourism project that hosts over 200 bird species — including the famous Great Blue Turaco as well as sitatungas, otters, and more monkeys.
Visitors can enjoy guided nature walks, birding excursions, and cultural interactions with the local communities who live harmoniously with the forest.
